One shell, endless backpanels: how SkyCase works

Most phone cases give you one look. When you get bored of it, the only way to change your phone is to buy a whole new case — and the old one goes in a drawer.

SkyCase splits the case into two pieces so the look is the part you change, not the case.

The two pieces

The Shell is the part that does the work. It's a clear, shock-absorbing base with raised edges around the screen and camera, and it stays on your phone. It comes in five colours — Black, Orange, Gray, Pink and Purple — so even bare it looks like a finished case.

The BackPanel is the part people see. It's a slim magnetic panel that snaps onto the back of the Shell. Cats, tomatoes, cherries, blueberries, peaches — there are twenty designs, and every one fits every Shell.

Swapping takes about three seconds

Hold the edge of the BackPanel, lift it off, line the new one up with the Shell and let the magnets pull it in. Your phone never leaves the Shell. There's no case to prise off, no bending plastic, no fingernails involved.

That's the whole point: changing your phone's look should cost you a few seconds and one small purchase, not thirty dollars and a new case every time.

Mixing colours and designs

The Shell colour shows through the edges and around the camera cutout, so it frames whatever BackPanel you put on. A Black Shell makes the bright designs pop. A Pink Shell under Peachy Pink reads as one continuous piece. A Gray Shell keeps the whole thing quiet.
